The Great American Beer Festival (GABF) is a event held in Denver, CO each year at the end of September. It was started in 1982 by the Brewers Association. In 2006, its 25 Anniversary, 384 breweries and 1650 beers were on the festival floor for the nearly 41,000 attendies to taste. Part of the GABF is the competition. Each year the Festival awards Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in 70 different styles as well as top brewery honors. A far cry from the original 13 categories that were judged in 1987. Prior to then only a consumer preference poll existed. Which put beer vs beer reguardless of style.
