About the Beer
MGD is made with the hops and barley malt, and has a golden "traditional American beer" flavor. MGD is cold-filtered to give it a smoothness typical of other "megabrew" beers of this type. From the time it leaves fermentation, MGD is cooled and filtered four times while stored in temperatures as low as 29°F. Brewing using this cold-lagering process is what gives this bottled beer its draft characteristic.
History
Over 150 years ago, Fredrick Miller set out to brew a beer with more flavor. Back then, this beer was brought from brewery to home in tin cans (or Growlers). Continuing in this tradition, in 1986, the Miller Brewing Company introduced Miller Genuine Draft, the first cold-filtered draft beer in a bottle.
Awards
Miller Genuine Draft was most recently awarded by the Great American Beer Festival with a Silver Medal in 2003, and a Gold Medal in 1999 in the American-Style Premium Lager category; and a Silver medal in 2000 in the American-style Lager category. At the World Beer Cup, it was recognized with a Bronze Medal in 2000 (American-Style Lager category) and a Silver Medal in 1998 (American-Style Premium Lager category).
Reviews
MGD has the ultra-light "brewed water with a head" flavor found in most American "megabrew" beers.
