Samuel Adams Imperial Pilsner
From Beeripedia the Beer Wiki
Samuel Adams Triple Bock has been described as... a hop lover's dream come true.
About the Beer
Samuel Adams were eager to create a beer that pushed the limit of our Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops. Samuel Adams Imperial Pilsner is the product of their creativity. The quality of the hops gives the beer an unmatched flavor dimension, complexity and drinkability, even at its elevated BU (bitterness unit) levels.
With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops flavor and aroma. This rare hop variety, considered to be one of the best in the world, is prized for its aromatic characteristics. The intensity of deep citrus, spicy Noble hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The hops ensure that this beer remains balanced and smooth. The lingering "hop signature" is an amazing treat for hop lovers. The beer has a deep golden color with a rich, creamy head.
History of the Beer
Brewers living in the hills of Bohemia in the 1800s created the original pilsner style beers which used newly-developed pale malts. The pilsner’s clarity, golden color and light body were starkly different from the dark beers being brewed throughout Europe at the time. The new pilsner style was instantly popular, and today pilsner is still the most popular beer style in the world.
With the advent of American craft brewing in the late twentieth century, American brewers started to push traditional styles to their extreme limits. Samuel Adams Imperial Pilsner pushes the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops to their limits and extracts an intense, drinkable beer. Every fall, Jim Koch and his team of brewers travel to one of the oldest hops-growing regions of the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select these hops. The brewers’ vision for Samuel Adams Imperial Pilsner was to brew a beer that pushes the limit of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hop.
About the Brewing
Samuel Adams Imperial Pilsner is made with the four classic ingredients of beer: hops, malt, yeast and water. This one-of-a-kind brew uses enormous, almost reckless, quantities of Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops selected fresh during the Bavarian hops harvest, making it one of the "hoppiest" beers in the world.
