[edit] About the Beer

Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale is the Christmas cookie of beer. Bursting with spices of the season and a remarkably full body, it helps those long winter nights pass much quicker. The full body hits the palate first with a depth of malt character ranging from sweeter toffee and caramel notes to the more dark, roasty chocolate notes. Then come the spices in full force. Cinnamon, ginger and orange peel dance on the tongue bringing with them the celebratory spirit that goes hand in hand with the season.

[edit] History of the Beer

This strong brown ale was first brewed in 1995 and was a seasonal favorite until it was discontinued in 2000. However, its demand was so strong it was resurrected in the Winter Classics mix 12 pack the following winter. The namesake for this brew comes from one of the most familiar of Holiday tales, Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". We see the jolly Old Fezziwig, Scrooge's first employer, in Christmas Past. The beer that bears his name was brewed in the festive spirit of the season that Old Fezziwig and his legendary Holiday galas embodied.

[edit] About the Brewing

Brewed using generous amounts of cinnamon, ginger and orange peel to impart a rich spice complexity that balances against the deep malt character.

[edit] Comments

12/13/2006 -- I tried this beer for the first time last night. I thought it was light, sweet, and mellow. I could detect more of the ginger and toffee than any other flavors, but I did get the impression of it being like a liquid-cookie. This beverage can definitely be classified in the "dessert beer" category. -- Anarchy
