Beers of Choice

I have no preference between Ales and Lagers. I do tend to fall on the Ale side of the fence more often than the Lager side, but that is probably due to the fact there are more ales out in the major markets than lagers.

I love dark beers, Dopplebocks on the Lager side, and Stouts and Porters on the Ale side. I like a good flavor to my brew, even if it is bitter. (However, I don't often agree with some expert's definition of bitter or hoppy.)

I grew up with Yuengling Brewery and have craved their distinct brands of beer since I moved to the desert of Arizona. I drink them any chance I get. However, I have found a Beer Oasis in the desert, in the form of Thunder Canyon Brewery. They rotate their beer several times a year, so I never get bored with their selection.

  1. Yuengling Black and Tan - My favorite beer of all time. I never get tired of the dark non-bitter taste of this blend of Porter and Premium Pilsner. While it is a dark to medium brown ale, its taste is smooth, and goes with almost anything I'm eating; and its even better by itself!
  2. Yuengling Lager - This has a surprising taste for a lager. It has a good body and while thick on flavor is still light on the pallete.
  3. Thunder Canyon Blackout Stout - Thunder Canyon Brewery is a local brewery in Tucson, AZ, and a place my friends and I like to hang out at. Their "Blackout Stout" is incredible, and while I love a good stout, this dark beer is a sure stand out. Very easy on the pallete, and can be consumed with almost anything.
  4. Thunder Canyon Sandstone Cream Ale - If I had to serve my own keg of beer at a back yard "bring your own meat" Barbecue, I would host with this beer. Its flavor is very tasteful, and has a magnificent ability to not only taste good with any cooked food, but it compliments it, as it is very light on the pallete and has absolutely no aftertaste.
  5. Guinness Draught - the Premiere dark beer, I always like having a 6-pack of this handy.
  6. Bass - My Staple Beer, I always have half-a-case of this in the fridge waiting for consumption.

Projects

The Jeremy's Beer Fridge Project

I'm thinking about starting a project around The beers I've sampled, using a Category "Jeremy's Beer Fridge". Through that I would like to set up a personal rating system, and a record of what I liked and disliked.

Thoughts?

Pete's Landscape of Beer Project

Once upon a time, Pete's Wicked Ale had publishes a little shockwave app entitled "Pete's Landscape of Beer", which was an informative presentation on how beer was made, and how beer can differ. It has since vanished from the web, but I archived it on my harddrive. I hope to publish it in wiki form here.
